More and more people are choosing artificial turf over natural grass. The reasons are simple: it's hard-wearing, needs almost no maintenance or water use, it's long-lasting and the aesthetic result is amazing.
But, at the same time, many customers come to us asking whether our range of artificial turf can be installed on their terraces.
The answer, of course, is yes: it can be installed on any surface. It gives terraces and balconies a very special touch, creating an oasis in the city.

Materials needed to install artificial turf on a terrace
Before starting our step-by-step guide to the installation process, let's briefly go over all the materials you'll need for it:
- A cutter
- A ruler
- Adhesive joining tape or joining strip
- PU glue (only if we're going to use joining strips)
- Stiff-bristle brush
How to install artificial turf on a terrace step by step
Prepare the surface
One of the great advantages of this type of artificial turf installation is that the floor doesn't need any prior preparation.
It will only be enough to sweep the surface to make sure there's no leftover debris or stones that could get in the way. If you also decide to mop it, make sure it's completely dry before installation.
Measure the surface
Now comes the time to measure the whole surface to know exactly how many rolls and metres of artificial turf we'll need. It's best to make yourself a map, also noting down any obstacles that need to be trimmed around (such as columns, ledges, etc.).
Cut the artificial turf
Once we have the measurements, it's time to start laying the different rolls. It's important to remember that, for a better fit, it's advisable to leave about 5 cm extra at the edges. Once it's installed, we'll trim off the excess.
We must also pay special attention to the joints between two rolls. We'll trim about 0.5 cm off each side to clean it up.
Make sure all the pieces fit perfectly, and keep in mind that they all need to be laid in the same direction. Only this way will we achieve a uniform look, since the fibres must all point the same way.
Now that we have the different rolls in their final position, it's time to seal them!
Fix the artificial turf in place
This is one of the key stages in knowing how to install artificial turf on a terrace.
As we mentioned in the materials section, you can choose to install it with adhesive joining tape or with a joining strip.
Adhesive joining tape is probably the simplest method:
- Lift up one edge of the roll.
- Place the self-adhesive strip.
- Remove the paper backing covering the adhesive.
- Lay the edge of the turf back over it and press lightly.
- Repeat this process with each of the edges.
On the other hand, if you go with the joining strip, you'll need to follow these steps:
- Lift up one edge of the roll.
- Place the joining strip on the floor.
- Using a spatula, spread the PU glue over it.
- Lay the edge of the turf back down and press lightly to fix it.
- Repeat the process with each of the edges.
- Let it dry. Depending on the room temperature, this time can vary between 30 minutes and 3 hours.
Fill in and brush
And finally… the finishing touch! If you want a softer, fluffier result, you can choose to scatter silica sand over the surface. This will also help improve its fixing and keep the fibres standing upright.
Once this is done, we'll brush the turf with the stiff-bristle brush against the direction of the fibres so they stay upright.
