What is Parquet?

It is a wood floor or flooring with a top or wear layer with a minimum thickness of 2.5mm before installation.

This is set out in European Standard EN 13756, which specifies that below this thickness, it would not be parquet but wood covering.

Similarly, synthetic laminate flooring cannot be considered parquet and is governed by the UNE-EN 13329 standard for laminate flooring coverings.

Floating Parquet Installation in Málaga

Floating parquet is called this because it does not use any type of fastening, such as nails or glue, for its fixing.

This allows us to achieve a clean and very fast installation, without needing to remove furniture or leave the house because of varnish or its smell.

There are several types of floating parquet, depending on the number of strips and their type:

  • 1 strip
  • 2 strips
  • 3 strips
  • Geometric and linear

They are generally made up of a fine wood surface of about 3mm (wear surface) and a pine backing layer that acts as a stabiliser against expansion.

The bottom veneer is the base that holds the pine backing layer in place. These 3mm mentioned above, which make up the fine wood layer, will allow us a maximum of 3 sandings, although this varies significantly depending on the wear surface and the type of sanding applied.

In general, it will not be necessary to remove the existing flooring, since tiles, cork or carpets serve perfectly as a base for the parquet installation.
